Hayden Wilder - Grand Prize winner - 4 year College Scholarship - Invitation to State Championships
Summer Luterlotty - 1st Place - 2 Year College Scholarship
Tina Vallone -  3rd Place
Anthony Vigliotti - 3rd Place
Hazen Williams - 4th Place and $600 scholarship to FGCU summer camp.

Murdock Scientists Rock
We had 10 Regional Science Fair Award Winners in 2010.

Valerie Segrebre
was awarded 5th place at the State Science Fair Competition


Valerie Segrebre
has won one of the Regional Grand Prizes. Valerie was awarded a Full 4 year scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University. She also recieved a scholarship to attend a summer research camp at FGCU. Valerie will also compete in the State Championships in March in Orlando.

Late Work Policy: For each day that an assignment is late students will lose 10% of the assignments value. No partial credit will be given after 10 days.

OUR MAIN FOCUS WILL BE LEARNING THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD . STUDENTS WILL CONDUCT  EXPERIMENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THE STEPS OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD.
ABOVE ALL ELSE WE WILL EXPAND OUR ABILTY TO PROBLEM SOLVE AS YOUNG SCIENTISTS AND TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
After mastering the steps of the scientific method students will begin the following topics:
6th Grade will begin the Rock Cycle and the structure of the Earth
7th Grade will begin cell biology
8th/9th will begin the physics of motion, acceleration and Newton's laws



General Information for all grades:
  • Students are required to participate in Science Fair. Materials will be sent home with information and due dates. All labs need to be written up in a composition notebook.
  • Students will normally be given at least 2 weeks to complete projects. They will be given opportunity in class to begin and work on their projects. Please see my lesson plan section or your child's planner for upcoming projects


Senior Project
Requirements:
Student will pick any specific science related topic that interests them
Students will be responsible for picking a specific topic and then have it approved
Students' main objective is to present an in-depth look at their topic.
The student can use any format including power point, written report, skit, poster, lesson etc.
Student must include information from two research projects from a professional journal or University research project that relates to their report.You must site the source.
The report should focus on the material that is relevant to the topic

Paper: should be 500 words words long and should focus on various therories, causes, effects, etc. of topic
Power Point: should include at least 10 slides
Newspaper Article: should be professionally written, have supporting visuals, and written for the general public.
Lesson Plan: student can present their topic as a lesson. Instruction and/or activity should last at least 20 minutes.
Poster: Visuals should be supported by informational insets that describe the visuals completly. Posters need to be presented to their peers. Posters must be neatly done.
