The purpose of the National Junior Honor Society is:

• To create enthusiasm for Scholarship

• To stimulate a desire to render Service

• To promote Leadership

• To develop Character

• To encourage Citizenship

Murdock Middle School proudly honors students each spring with membership in the National Junior Honor Society.  Membership in NJHS is a highly deserved recognition for the hard work students put into their schoolwork as well as their willingness to contribute to their community.  Several meetings are held throughout the year where business is discussed as well as leadership and teambuilding activities are conducted.  Murdock’s Chapter of the NJHS participates in an annual fundraising drive for MDA called “Shamrocks for Muscular Dystrophy”.  In addition we collaborate with the Murdock Chapter of the Builders Club to do joint community service projects. Additional leadership opportunities are available for 7th and 8th graders who wish to serve as NJHS officers. After standing for election, these officers are instrumental in the Induction Ceremony and in planning the NJHS end of the year activity.

Selection Process

1.  Prior to selection, the following shall occur:

a. Students’ academic records shall be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility.

b. Students who are eligible scholastically (“candidates”) shall be notified and asked to complete and submit the “Student Activity Information Form” for further consideration for selection.

c. The faculty shall be requested to evaluate candidates determined to be scholastically eligible using  the official evaluation form provided by the chapter adviser.

d. The faculty council shall review the Student Activity Information Form and faculty evaluations in  order to determine membership.

2.  The selection of each member to the chapter shall be by a majority vote of the faculty council, consisting of five faculty members appointed by the Principal. The chapter adviser (or co advisers) shall be the sixth (or sixth and seventh) non-voting, ex-officio members of the faculty council.
