About me:
I have been teaching since August of 1996 at Murdock Middle School. My certifications are in Latin (Grades 7-12), English (Grades 6-12), Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (Grades 5-9), and Varying Exceptionalities (Grades K-12).
Classroom Expectations:

Supplies:
- Student Planner
- 2-pocket folder
- Loose-leaf notebook paper
- #2 pencils
- Only official black or blue ballpoint pens. No red ink, green ink or gel pens allowed!
Classroom Procedures:
Promptly take seat. Copy daily lesson from board into Student Planner. Prepare for class. After lesson wrap-up and review, pick up all personal items and leave area neat and tidy.
Homework:
- Make-up work due to absenteeism is the student’s responsibility, Two days are allowed for each day absent.
- Students are expected to reread passages and practice writing on any given day’s lesson at home.
- Extra time – If a student does not complete an open book test, essay assignment or any daily lesson requiring writing, they are to take it home, complete and turn in at the beginning of class the next day.
- Students must study for tests. The writing process is extensive, and all students must memorize every required part of it. Additionally, students must learn and apply reading strategies.
Materials Taught and Assessed:
- We will read and analyze a wide variety of passages from the literature book, InterActive Reader and a novel. Each is followed by an FCAT type test.
- Students will write both persuasive and expository essays. They will learn the step-by-step procedure to writing effective, attention-grabbing essays. They will be tested on these steps as we learn them. Grading of essays includes analyzing prompts and planning.
- Grammar, wordskills, listening effectively and speaking properly are also studied and applied to reading, writing and good communication skills.. FCAT type tests follow.
Grading Policy:
All essays are worth 100 points. Analyzing the essay’s prompt, planning the essay and the edited rough draft have a combined value of 50 points. Points vary on FCAT type tests, as well as reading and grammar assignments. Grades are based on total points following the school board’s grading scale.
