8th Grade American History Mr. Platt
Introduction Welcome to American History. American History is the study of people, places, cultures, and events that formed the United States of America. It encompasses the study of social, cultural, economic, and political life in the United States and it's great history. Understanding American History will help the sudents to appreciate our cultural and economic diversity, thus helping them to become effective citizens and care takers of this great nation.
Required Course Materials Students are required to have the following materials:
- Pen and/or pencil
- Loose-leaf (filler) paper
- Colored pencils
- 2-pocket folders (with or without brackets)
- Hand-held pencil sharpener
Course Outline This course will utilize a variety of teaching and learning strategies. Students will be engaged in activities such as cooperative learning strategies. They will be engaged in activities such as cooperative learning, role-playing, short dramas, simulations, experimental exercises, perspective writing, and other various projects & activities that are grounded in the student’s understanding and interpretation of World Geography.
Student assessment will be based on tests, quizzes, classroom activities, projects/reports, homework, and folder checks. In order to maximize student learning and grade…bring the necessary materials to class everyday! A carpenter would not show up to work without his/her tools, a student should not show up with his/her tools…paper, pencil, folders, etc.

Classroom Rules/Expectations
- Bring all your appropriate tools, pencil, pen, paper, folder, planner, binder, and color pencils daily.
- Be on time to all classes.
- If you’re late, come to class with a PASS.
- Raise your hand to ask or answer a question in class
- Ask for permission to leave your seat or the classroom
- Be respectful of the questions, answers, ideas, and opinions of others.
- Listen politely while others are speaking in the group.
- Wait for others to finish speaking before you begin.
- Treat all classmates with respect.
- Respect the property and privacy of others.
- Do not go behind the teacher’s desk.
- Do not touch the teacher’s or a classmate’s items without permission.
- Do not go into another student’s book bag, binder, folder, purse, etc.
- Pay attention and stay on task so you know how to do the assignment.
- Ask questions when you don’t understand the directions or the assignment.
- Write your name, date, period, and the name of the assignment in the upper right hand of every paper.
- Neatly complete your assignments in appropriate form (pencil/back or blue pen/typed).
- Write down, complete, and turn in all assignments on time.
- When you are absent, see your teacher after class to make sure for make up work/quizzes/tests/ and get caught up as soon as possible.
- Take care of the classroom and everything in the classroom.
- Pick up paper, pencil, and any trash that has fallen on the floor.
