Welcome to Computer Technology Class at Murdock Middle School

Location:  C-1
Mrs. Gibbs

Computer literacy is an expectation in all high school courses, college, and the professional world of business.  This year, it is my challenge to help your child develop, demonstrate, and expand their technical skills so that they meet and even exceed their computer literacy expectations.  We will use these technical skills this year as we complete projects independent of their academic classes and in collaboration with their math, science, language arts, and social studies teachers.  This class will also support the core academics by using numerous outstanding programs that promote a self-paced learning environment, encourage critical thinking and enhance problem solving strategies.

The grading criteria will be based on a variety of assessments which may include the following:
  • Classroom Work
  • Projects
  • Presentations
  • Typing Observations
  • Typing Accuracy & Word Per Minutes Tests
  • Performance Tasks
Grading Scale
90-100          A               Outstanding Progress
80-89           B               Above Average Progress
70-79           C               Adequate Progress
60-69           D               Lowest Acceptable Progress
0-59            F               Failure

Rubrics will be provided for projects, presentations, typing tests, and performance tasks.  Each student has the opportunity to look at a graded assignment and make the choice to keep the original grade or make corrections, and resubmit the assignment.  The final grade will be an average of the originally graded assignment and the resubmitted assignment.  Because this class is primarily a self-paced learning environment, many of the assignments can be resubmitted up until the week before the end of each quarter.  An exception to the rule would be typing tests and some academic projects.

Classroom Rules
Be Respectful – Meaning that each student should show good character by being honest,         kind and fair.  (This includes not touching another student’s computer)
Be Responsible – Meaning that each student should complete assignments to the best of their ability and bring the supplies needed for the day.
Be Ready to Learn – Meaning that each student should be prepared to participate in class discussions, activities, and should follow the classroom procedures.

Materials Needed:
  • Paper
  • Pencils/Pen
  • Headphones
Classroom Procedures:
  • Go immediately to your assigned computer and log on.  (inform the teacher of any problems with your computer at the beginning of class)
  • Begin the assignment that will be projected, written or verbally stated as you enter the classroom.
  • If you have a question about an assignment please reread the directions.  If you are still unclear then politely ask a peer for help.  If a peer is not able to assist you, then please put your cup on top of your tower and wait patiently.
  • Log off of your computer only when instructed to do so.
  • At the end of class, clean up your work station.
